Individual Counseling Services

"Of all the various schools of therapy, I would say, be at one end of the continuum of those who think that the nature of the relationship, the intimacy of the relationship, the work on the process, meaning what’s happening between the therapist and patient is the most important issue"--Dr. Irvin Yalom The Evolution of Therapy

Research has repeatedly shown that it's not the theoretical orientation of the therapist that has the greatest influence on client results. Still, it is truly the connection between the client and the therapist that makes the difference.  Thus, even though there are many different schools of therapeutic thought, all good therapists share certain basic qualities: the ability to listen, empathize, and walk beside the client along his or her path symbolically.

Individual counseling is a personal opportunity to receive support and experience growth during challenging times in life. Individual counseling can help one deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes, etc.

Individual counseling is counseling focused on the individual's immediate or near-future concerns. Counseling may encompass career counseling and planning, grief after a loved one dies or dealing with problems at a job before they become big. Individual counseling is a one-on-one discussion between counselor and client, therefore the two form an alliance, relationship or bond that enables trust and personal growth.

What types of theories do I pull from in my work with clients?

-As a therapist, I integrate a psychodynamic, humanistic, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) approach to provide deep, holistic healing for trauma and complex trauma. Using a psychodynamic lens, I help clients uncover unconscious patterns, early life experiences, and relational dynamics that shape their current struggles, fostering insight and long-term emotional growth. From a humanistic perspective, I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to reconnect with their strengths and personal meaning. Through IFS, I guide clients in understanding and integrating their internal parts—helping protective managers, reactive firefighters, and wounded exiles find balance while allowing the Self to take compassionate leadership. With EMDR, I support clients in reprocessing distressing memories, using bilateral stimulation to reduce emotional triggers and transform painful experiences into sources of resilience. By weaving these approaches together, I provide a personalized, depth-oriented, and healing-centered framework that helps individuals move beyond survival and into a place of empowerment, self-compassion, and inner harmony.
